Records available at the Family History Centre

Updated: Thursday, August 16, 2018   |   Belper Historical & Genealogical Website

This is a list of the films of Parish Registers and other records available on film from the LDS (Family History Centres).

What Is a Family History Centre?

Family history centres are facilities sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that provide research support for people interested in identifying their ancestors. These centres also provide local access to microfilmed family history records and, where available, Church family history computer programs.

Family history centres are usually in local Latter-day Saint meetinghouses and are staffed by volunteers. Centres are available worldwide. A list of centre locations is available from the Family History Library or on the Internet. The list on the Internet also provides the centre's hours of operation.

How Do I Order Microfilms and Microfiche from the Family History Library?

Digital Records Access Replacing Microfilm

On September 8, 2017, FamilySearch will discontinue its microfilm circulation services. Due to system outages during the week of August 20, 2017 FamilySearch has decided to extend circulation an additional week.

Family history centers including affiliate libraries may retain their microfilm collections already on loan from FamilySearch after microfilm ordering ends (The last day to order microfilm will be on September 7, 2017.) All microfilm currently in circulation will be converted to an extended loan. Additionally, recent changes now make it possible to view many formerly restricted images in affiliate libraries as well as local family history centers.

FamilySearch is a global leader in historic records preservation and access, with billions of the world’s genealogical records in its collections. This change is the result of significant progress made in microfilm digitization efforts and the obsolescence of vesicular microfilm as an access medium.

Note: Books listed in the Family History Library Catalog cannot be sent to family history centres unless they are also on microfilm. You can request that a book be microfilmed. (Ask a staff member at the centre for help.) However, microfilming a book may take several months if the library has to obtain copyright permission to do so. It may be faster to try to obtain the book elsewhere, such as a public library or from the publisher.
